Jesus declared in Gospel of Matthew 16:18, “I will build My church.” The word Jesus used for “church” was ekklesia, which means a called-out assembly. It refers to a people set apart to represent the authority and purposes of the King. The Church was never meant to be simply a weekly gathering or a building people attend. It is a Spirit-filled community called out of darkness to carry the presence of God and to advance His Kingdom in the world.
At The Upper Room, we believe the Ekklesia is the living body of Christ on the earth. We are a people who gather in unity, seek the presence of God, and allow the Holy Spirit to shape us into disciples of Jesus. Just as the first believers gathered in the Upper Room in Acts of the Apostles 1–2, waiting on God together until the Spirit came in power, we believe God is still forming communities today that will carry His presence and bring transformation to their cities.
Jesus loves His Church deeply and sacrificially. Scripture tells us in Epistle to the Ephesians 5:25 that Christ loved the Church and gave Himself for her. His sacrifice on the cross was not only for individual salvation but also to create a covenant people who would live together as His body and reflect His love, truth, and power to the world. Because Jesus gave everything for His Church, we believe it is worth giving our lives, our time, and our resources to see His Church flourish.
The Upper Room exists to be a dwelling place for the presence of God and a training ground for disciples of Jesus. We are committed to prayer, worship, biblical teaching, discipleship, and authentic community. Our desire is not simply to gather people but to see lives transformed, families restored, and believers equipped to live with spiritual authority and maturity in every area of life.
Building a community like this requires faith, sacrifice, and partnership. Throughout Scripture, whenever God established a place for His presence or a work for His Kingdom, He invited His people to participate in building it together. We believe the same is true today. Every chair represents a person who may encounter Jesus. Every Bible placed in someone’s hands carries the potential to transform a life. Every resource invested helps create space for people to experience the love and power of God.
The Upper Room is not simply a project or an event—it is a calling. We believe God is establishing a community in Bremerton where people can encounter His presence, grow as disciples, and be equipped to bring the Kingdom of God into their homes, workplaces, and neighborhoods. Together, we are building something that will not only impact our city today but will leave a legacy of faith for generations to come.
Your generosity helps build The Upper Room—a place where people encounter God, grow as disciples of Jesus, and are equipped to bring hope and transformation to our city.
